Lab Leak

Lab Leak

Lab Leak turns a cluster slot into an outbreak. Virus Wilds that join a win start Virus Spread, a hold-and-spin phase in which super viruses infect every neighbouring square and each new landing brings a fresh respin. It is a distinctive idea with a clear buy menu, but the 96.00% RTP is the lowest in the Twist line-up and some features are thinly documented.

Lab Leak review

Lab Leak has the most uncomfortable premise in the Twist Gaming catalogue, and the studio leans into it. The setting is a quarantined laboratory, the symbols mutate, and the main feature is an infection that spreads cell by cell across a big 7x7 grid. Taste aside, the mechanic is one of the more original things the studio has built.

It went live on Stake on 31 March 2026, and SlotCatalog listed it on 9 April. Juice's own games page listed $8.51M wagered across 5.0M bets over the 30 days to mid-October 2026.

Lab Leak at a glance
Lab Leak is a high-volatility cluster pays slot on a 7x7 grid, where 5 or more connected symbols win and cascades follow. RTP is 96.00% and the max win is 10,000x the bet. When a Virus Wild joins a winning cluster, Virus Spread starts: a hold-and-spin phase in which viruses unlock extra positions and every new prize or virus brings a fresh respin.

Inside the quarantine zone

The design borrows from pandemic films and lab-outbreak stories: viruses, mutating symbols and the sealed-off look of a quarantined facility. It is not subtle, and it is not meant to be. The theme exists to explain the mechanic, and it does that well: when the board starts filling with infection, you understand at once what is happening.

How Lab Leak plays

At 7 reels by 7 rows, Lab Leak has the biggest board in the Twist line-up, with 49 positions. Wins are clusters of 5 or more matching symbols touching each other, and every win is followed by a cascade: the winning symbols disappear and new ones drop in, which can set up further clusters.

Clusters are paid from 5 symbols up to 15 or more. At a 1.00 bet, the top symbol pays 1.00 for 5, 10 for 10 and 200 for 15 or more, while the lowest symbols pay 0.10 for 5 and 20 for 15 or more. The full ladder sits in the paytable on Stake. The published maths put the base-game hit rate at about 16.8%.

Lab Leak features

Virus Spread

Virus Spread is the heart of the game. It triggers when a Virus Wild is part of a winning cluster, and it switches the game into a hold-and-spin phase. As viruses and super viruses land, the infection spreads and unlocks extra hold-and-spin positions on the board. A super virus spreads to every position around it, which is the quickest way to open up the grid.

The respin rule keeps the phase alive: every prize or virus that lands gives a fresh hold-and-spin respin, so the feature lasts for as long as the outbreak keeps growing. When nothing new arrives, it ends.

Cascades

Cascades run in the base game after every cluster win. They matter beyond the extra wins, because each cascade is another chance for a Virus Wild to land inside a winning cluster and set off Virus Spread.

Free spins

Four or more scatters trigger free spins with Virus Spread active. Stake does not state how many spins are awarded, so check the game's rules screen before you count on a particular length.

Collector symbols

Stake's game page mentions collector symbols but does not describe what they do. Rather than guess, we recommend reading the in-game rules for the details.

Bonus buy

Lab Leak has a clear four-step buy menu. Stake lists these prices, and the published maths match them. Whether you can use them depends on the casino and your jurisdiction.

  • FS Trigger Boost: 2.5x per spin.
  • Virus Boost: 5x per spin, putting a wild on every spin.
  • Virus Spread Boost: 30x per spin, starting Virus Spread on every spin.
  • Free Spins: 300x.

The Virus Boost at 5x is the cheapest way to see more wilds, while the 30x Virus Spread Boost goes straight to the main feature on every spin, at six times the price.

A lower RTP than its stablemates
Lab Leak runs at 96.00% RTP in all five published modes, according to Stake, SlotCatalog and the studio's fairness catalogue. Most Twist Gaming titles sit at 96.70% or 97.00%. Check the RTP in the game's info screen before you play.

Volatility and who it suits

Stake rates Lab Leak as high volatility. The base game pays modestly, and the value is concentrated in Virus Spread and the free spins. The published maths put the base-game max-win event at about 1 in 500,000 spins, which makes the 10,000x cap less remote here than in most of the studio's games.

It suits players who like hold-and-spin features and big grids, and who are willing to accept a lower RTP in exchange for that. If the RTP matters most to you, other Twist titles are the better pick.

Where to play Lab Leak

Lab Leak launched as a Stake exclusive. Our Stake review has the full picture; Stake is licensed in Curaçao, so check that it is legal where you live. Juice opened its games to other operators in September 2026, so availability may widen.

If hold-and-spin is the draw, Bank Basher has a Hold and Respin round with sticky safes. Elemental Ways runs a respin phase in which wilds corrupt neighbouring spaces, a close cousin of Virus Spread. Browse more in our slot reviews.

Our verdict on Lab Leak

Lab Leak takes a big swing. The outbreak theme is blunt, but Virus Spread is a genuinely fresh way to run a hold-and-spin round: the infection logic gives the feature a shape, super viruses provide the drama, and fresh respins keep it going for as long as the board keeps growing.

Against that, the RTP is a clear step below the studio's other games, and parts of the rules are undocumented. Play responsibly, set limits before you start, and treat the 30x Virus Spread Boost as the expensive option it is.
