Le Cowboy

Le Cowboy

Smokey the Raccoon is back – this time as a sheriff in the Wild West. Le Cowboy is the latest release in Hacksaw Gaming’s popular “Le” series, where the beloved villain has swapped pyramids and Mount Olympus for dusty saloons and revolvers. With a new Revolver Reveals system and a win potential of 25,000x, this is the most generous Le slot yet.

There’s something liberating about Hacksaw Gaming’s Le series. Where other developers would have made one game and called it a day, Hacksaw has taken their chubby raccoon Smokey on a world tour that now spans eight destinations. And somehow, each new stop manages to feel fresh. Le Cowboy is no exception.

Smokey Becomes Sheriff

The irony is hard to miss. Smokey – the notorious thief and troublemaker – has now pinned on the sheriff’s star and traded his thieving tricks for a revolver. Or has he? The grumpy raccoon with the distinctive moustache still looks like he’s planning his next heist, even when standing guard over the dusty Old West.

Visually, Le Cowboy ranks among the finest releases in the series. The background showcases a classic western town complete with saloons, water towers, and wanted posters. Smokey himself stands beside the reels, ready to draw his pistol with every win. The animations are crisp, the colours warm, and the whole package oozes spaghetti western charm.

How to Play

Le Cowboy runs on a 6×5 grid with cluster pays mechanics. You win by landing five or more matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically. When a win forms, Super Cascades activate – but here’s where Le Cowboy sets itself apart.

Instead of only removing the winning symbols, all symbols of the winning type disappear from the entire grid. Land a cluster of cowboy hats, and every single cowboy hat on the screen vanishes, whether they were part of the win or not. This creates far bigger chain reactions than traditional cascades and brings a completely different dynamic to the base game.

Volatility is medium, making Le Cowboy more accessible than many other Hacksaw titles. RTP sits at 96.28% in the standard version, but beware – some casinos run lower variants down to 86.33%.

Revolver Reveals – The Heart of the Game

The big innovation in Le Cowboy is the Revolver Reveals mechanic. When a Wild symbol (Smokey’s wanted poster) forms part of a winning cluster, it transforms into a revolver cylinder with 2-6 shots.

After all cascades conclude, Smokey fires his pistols at random positions on the grid. Each shot reveals a special symbol:

  • Bronze Coins award 1x-4x
  • Silver Coins award 5x-20x
  • Gold Coins award 25x-100x
  • Diamonds deliver an impressive 150x-500x
  • Clovers multiply adjacent coins and diamonds by 2x-20x
  • Loot Bags collect all visible values and can restart the entire sequence
  • Reload reloads the revolver with fresh shots

It’s in the interplay between these symbols that Le Cowboy truly shines. A well-placed Clover can transform a handful of bronze coins into a massive payout, and Loot Bags can keep the reveal sequence running far longer than expected.

Three Bonus Rounds with Rising Intensity

Le Cowboy offers three different free spins rounds, each building upon the previous.

High Noon Saloon triggers with three scatters and awards 10 free spins. It’s the most basic bonus, but Revolver Reveals remain active, and there’s a chance to land multiple cylinders per spin.

Trail of Trickery requires four scatters and introduces the Bullet Collector. Here you gather bullets from each winning combination, which fire in a grand showdown on the final spin. This adds building tension as you watch your arsenal grow spin by spin.

Pistols at Dawn is the hidden epic bonus, triggered only with five scatters. Here the Bullet Collector becomes progressive – it activates after every single spin, resets to its previous value, and continues collecting. Only silver coins and higher can land, pushing the win potential significantly higher.

The Gamble Feature

An interesting addition is the option to gamble your bonus. Land three or four scatters, and you can choose between taking the bonus you’ve won or gambling for an upgrade. If you gamble, a revolver cylinder spins and decides your fate – either you get a better bonus, or you end up with a cash prize up to 500x.

It’s a risky strategy. RTP drops by approximately 0.1-0.2% for each gamble, and my own testing showed that upgrades rarely hit. In demo mode it’s entertaining to experiment, but with real money I’d think twice.

Feature Buy and Boosters

For those who want to skip straight to the action, several options exist:

  • BonusHunt FeatureSpins cost just 3x the stake and make each spin five times more likely to trigger a bonus
  • Wild West FeatureSpins at 75x guarantee at least two Wilds per spin, virtually ensuring Revolver Reveals activation
  • High Noon Saloon can be purchased for 65x-100x
  • Trail of Trickery for 250x

It’s a flexible menu that lets players choose their preferred approach – from the patient grinder to the impatient bonus hunter.

Who Is This Game For?

Le Cowboy hits a broader target audience than many Hacksaw titles. Medium volatility and a minimum bet of just €0.05 make the game accessible to casual players, while the 25,000x max win and deep bonus mechanics satisfy veterans.

If you’re a fan of the Le series, this is a must-play. The Revolver Reveals mechanic feels like a natural evolution of the familiar reveal formula, and the Wild West theme suits Smokey’s persona perfectly. If you’re new to the series, Le Cowboy is actually an excellent starting point – it’s visually impressive, mechanically solid, and not as brutally volatile as some of Hacksaw’s other titles.

Our Verdict

Le Cowboy is yet more proof that Hacksaw Gaming knows what they’re doing with their Le series. It’s not a revolutionary innovation, but it doesn’t need to be. Revolver Reveals adds a fresh layer to the formula, the bonus structure is well-designed with clear progression, and the visuals are among the series’ best.

With 25,000x win potential, Le Cowboy sets a new record for the series, and the low minimum bet opens the door for all budgets. The gamble feature isn’t for everyone, but it’s easy to ignore if you prefer a more conservative approach.

Smokey’s western phase is a success. The hat fits well, the pistols are loaded, and there’s gold in them thar hills.
