Slot reviews

Last updated How we rate →

Online slots reviewed one at a time, with the mechanics explained rather than the marketing repeated. This is a small, deliberately narrow library rather than a catalogue of the market. Each review gives the provider, the release year, the reel layout and, where the studio publishes it, the RTP, plus an editorial rating where we have one. If a slot in the list below carries no rating, that is because we have not scored it, not because it scored badly.

What this library covers

A narrow library is a starting point, not a ranking, and the page says so rather than claiming to cover the market. The studios represented here are a thin slice of a sector with hundreds of suppliers, so treat these as worked examples: what a grid slot does differently from a tumbling-reels title, and what the numbers on a paytable actually commit the game to.

Every review is written against the same template, so two games can be compared on the same fields instead of on whichever features their press material emphasised. Where a field is missing — an RTP a studio does not disclose, a max win it does not state — the review leaves it blank instead of filling it with an estimate.

Reading the numbers on a slot

Three figures carry most of the meaning, and only one of them is usually advertised.

RTP is the long-run return to player, expressed as a percentage of total stakes returned across an enormous number of spins. It is a property of the game's maths, not a forecast for your session, and a 96% RTP does not mean you get 96% of a given deposit back. Note also that many slots ship in several RTP configurations and the operator chooses which one to run, so the figure on a studio's page and the figure in a given lobby can differ.

Volatility describes how the return is distributed. A high-volatility slot pays less often and larger; a low-volatility slot pays more often and smaller. Games with an identical RTP can feel completely different because of it, and volatility is the field that explains why.

Max win is a cap, expressed as a multiple of the stake. It is the ceiling the game can pay, and on high-volatility titles it is reached rarely enough that it should be read as a limit rather than as a target.

How we review a slot

We play a slot in demo mode where the studio provides one, read the paytable and the rules screen, and record the fields the review template asks for. We do not claim to have measured RTP ourselves: establishing a return figure empirically takes millions of spins, so the number we publish is the studio's, and we say so. Where a rating exists it is editorial — a judgement about the game, formed against the criteria in how we rate — and not a score computed from RTP and volatility.

A slot is not a licensed operator, and a review here is not a recommendation of any site that happens to carry the game.

What a slot review here does not tell you

It does not tell you whether a game is due. Each spin is an independent event resolved by a random number generator, so a slot that has paid nothing for an hour is in exactly the same state as one that just paid. Any system built on the opposite idea — raising stakes after losses, chasing a cold game — is betting on a pattern the maths does not contain.

It does not tell you what a session will cost. The useful figure for that is your own: stake per spin multiplied by spins per hour gives the turnover you are putting through, and the house edge applies to that turnover rather than to your deposit. At 100 spins an hour and a 1 unit stake, a 4% edge implies roughly 4 units an hour in expectation — a number worth knowing before you sit down, and one no paytable prints.

And it does not tell you where to play. A game review is about the game. Which operators carry it, on what licence, and whether they are available to you are separate questions, and the licence sections below are where we deal with them.

Licensing and where this applies

This is the international edition, and the operators we cover hold licences from the Malta Gaming Authority, the UK Gambling Commission, Gibraltar or the Isle of Man. Online gambling law is national, so a game that is legally available to you may not be available to a reader in another country, and nothing on this page is advice about your own jurisdiction. The UK Gambling Commission publishes a public register of the businesses it licenses, which is the authoritative place to check a UK licence rather than a badge in a site footer.

Play responsibly

Slots are designed as entertainment with a built-in house edge, and no amount of understanding RTP or volatility changes that edge. Decide what a session is worth to you before you start, and use the deposit limits and time-outs your operator provides. In Great Britain, GambleAware offers free, confidential advice and support, and our own responsible gambling page collects the tools operators are required to give you. You must be of legal gambling age in your jurisdiction — 18 in most, higher in some.

FAQ6 questions
Does a 96% RTP mean I get 96% of my money back?
No. RTP is a long-run property of the game's maths measured across an enormous number of spins, not a forecast for a session or a deposit. Short-run results vary far more widely than the figure suggests.
Why do some slots here have no rating?
Because a rating is editorial and we only publish one where we have formed a judgement. A missing rating means we have not scored the game, not that it scored badly, and we do not compute a score from RTP and volatility.
Why is the library so small?
It is deliberately narrow and growing. The titles here are worked examples rather than a ranking of the market, and the page does not claim otherwise.
Can the RTP of the same slot differ between sites?
Yes. Many slots ship in several RTP configurations and the operator chooses which to run, so a studio's published figure and the figure in a particular lobby can differ. Check the game's own rules screen.
Do you measure RTP yourselves?
No. Establishing a return figure empirically takes millions of spins, so the RTP we publish is the studio's and we attribute it as such.
Which licences do you cover on this edition?
Malta Gaming Authority, UK Gambling Commission, Gibraltar and the Isle of Man. Gambling law is national, so availability depends on where you are.
